Video on Product Management: Valuing Outcomes and Impact Over Output

I found this 10 minute video “Output vs. Outcome & Impact” by Jeff Patton quite insightful. In the video he discusses a mental model for the product development process. He compares the project world which worries about “cost, time, and scope” with the product world which focuses on “output, outcome and impact”.

He covers a lot of interesting ground in 10 minutes including touching on things like the challenges and trappings of idea-centric models with successful companies. Ultimately he’s advocating valuing impact and outcomes over output. Give it a look.
